Science Week

Before mid term we had a science fair in the school hall. Each class had a different experiment to display and everyone had a great time. Our experiment was about triangles. It was called Amazing Triangles. We built a house of cards and it was very hard. We also built marshmallow structures with marshmallows and cocktail sticks. We were looking at how triangles are good for building. They are also good  for helping the structure stand.
We also did an experiment with baking powder, water, vinegar, lemon juice and a mix of vinegar and water to see if we could clean the tables in our class with stuff from our kitchen. The mixture of vinegar, baking powder and water cleaned the tables better than all the other ones and the lemon juice did not clean the tables very well. Ms O'Connor came down to our classroom to do an experiment with us. We were testing if these foods had starch like apples, biscuits and bread rolls.We used iodine to test the food. It turned blue or black when it had starch and it stayed red or brown when it had no starch in it.

Where Do bananas come from?

In our class we learned about where bananas come from.
They grew in Costa Rica.
First, the bananas are picked from the banana plant. They are green when they are picked, so they don't go off too quickly. They are sorted.  After that they are packed into boxes.Then they are sent all around the world on big ships.

Green School

We are a green school and are always trying to to think of ways to save energy and water in our school.
This week we put up posters around the school to encourage people to walk to school, save energy and water.
Every Wednesday we try to walk to school.We made a trend graph showing the number of people that walked to school on a Wednesday. We made one for our class and the whole school. Every week we will fill it in to show the number of people walking. We also made posters and put them up around the school to remind everyone to save energy and walk to school.

This week we started swimming and we will be doing it for another 7 weeks.
We also learned about conduction in Science. We did an experiment about conduction and we found out that the best conductor is metal.
Conduction is when heat passes through objects.
We are observing the weather and recording the temperature.

Hello this month has been really busy. We are learning Away In A Manger and Walking In The Air for the carol service.
We were making fun wrapping paper and Christmas cards. Were also drawing and colouring myths and legends.
We also make a book of stories that we wrote Ourselves.
We learned about the Celts and we made mini-projects about them.It was really fun.
We learned about were music originally came from with our music teacher Catherine.
